Assassination attempts against my father never end, says Donald Trump Jr

Assassination plots against Donald Trump never end, Donald Trump Jr has said, after a man was arrested carrying loaded firearms outside one of the former president’s rallies.
Officers from the Riverside County Sheriff  stopped Vem Miller, 49, at the inside perimeter of Trump’s rally in Coachella on Saturday, carrying fake ID documents and weapons that the local sheriff said were likely intended for “another assassination attempt”.
Trump’s eldest son posted on X, formerly Twitter: “It never ends!!!  Riverside Co. Sheriff says deputies ‘probably’ prevented third assassination attempt on Trump.” He also posted a link to an article about the alleged assassination attempt.
If the sheriff is correct, it would be the third attempt on Trump’s life since July.
Mr Miller has said he was “shocked” at being arrested and accused of trying to harm Trump, who he said he supports.
“These accusations are complete bull—t,” he told Southern California News Group. “I’m an artist, I’m the last person that would cause any violence and harm to anybody.”
Mr Miller, who lives in Las Vegas and was described as belonging to a Right-wing group who claim to be “sovereign individuals”, was later bailed, and the US Secret Service assigned to protect Trump said his arrest “did not impact protective operations”. Mr Miller denied being connected to the group, according to The Press-Enterprise.
Both the FBI and Trump’s campaign told US media they did not believe the incident represented a threat to Trump’s life, and that an assassination attempt had not taken place. He was charged with two misdemeanour firearms offences, and is scheduled to appear in court in January, according to police records.

The man arrested over a suspected plot to assassinate Donald Trump has claimed he was lawfully carrying firearms.
Vem Miller, who was arrested after officers alleged he was carrying unlicensed loaded guns outside a Trump rally, said he told law enforcement about the guns as a courtesy, in an interview with The Press-Enterprise.
The 49-year-old said he received a special invitation to the Coachella Valley rally from the head of Clark County’s Republican Party.
Mr Miller claimed he had his vehicle was “ransacked” after he alerted officers to the guns. He alleged he bought the firearms in 2022 for protection after receiving death threats.
He added that he had never fired them and claimed he was unfamiliar with the difference between gun laws in Nevada and California
The assassination plot suspect also denied claims he presented a press pass at the checkpoint, alleging that he told security he had a  “special entry pass”.
Donald Trump Jr has voiced his exasperation after a third assassination attempt against the former president.
Trump’s eldest son posted on Twitter: “It never ends!!!  Riverside Co. Sheriff says deputies ‘probably’ prevented third assassination attempt on Trump.”

Donald Trump was not put “in any danger” by the suspected assassination attempt, the FBI has said.
The bureau said that no federal arrests have been made at this stage but investigations are ongoing.

The Sheriff has doubled down on his previous comments, telling the press conference that officers “probably did” prevent a third assassination attempt.
“I probably did have deputies that prevented a third assassination attempt,” he said.
Upbraiding the press for questioning his previous statement, the sheriff added: “We are that politically lost that we have lost sense of common sense reality and reason.”
He continued: “I’m going to be accused of being dramatic. We have a serious, serious problem in this country, because this is common sense and reason.”
The sherriff added: “It’s the most stupid thing in the world that we have to label this as politics, describing Mr Miller as “a lunatic”.
Asked if it was an assassination attempt, the sheriff said: “I will be honest with you, I don’t remember saying that but it certainly would be something I did say.”
He added that “there is absolutely no way that any of us are going to truly know what was going through his head”.

The ‘would-be assassin’ was driving an unregistered vehicle with a fake licence plate, the sheriff said.
“The interior of the vehicle was in disarray. the vehicle had an obviously fake licence plate, which prompted further investigation,” he said.
The sheriff said the place the suspect was stopped was about a quarter of a mile from the rally’s entrance.
“During that investigation the deputy found multiple passports with multiple names, multiple driving license with different names”, he continued.
He added that the suspect’s unregistered vehicle had a home-made licence plate “indicative of a group of citizens that claim to be sovereign citizens.”
Mr Miller used fake identification documents to get within the first line of security, the sheriff’s office spokesman said.
Mr Bianco said the suspect “approached the outside perimeter, gave all indications that he belonged there, that he was a participant who was allowed to enter into VIP in the press corps.”
He added that on the inside perimeter “there were many irregularities that popped up”.
Chad Bianco, the Riverside County Sheriff, said: “We made contact to an individual on the inner perimeter of our operation at the rally.
“In regard to pervious attempts on the president’s life, this was not something we were taking lightly.”

The press conference from the local sheriff’s department has got under way.

Donald Trump is speaking tonight at a rally in Arizona. He has been on stage for 35 minutes and has not mentioned the arrest of a potential gunman outside his event in Coachella yesterday.
He has been speaking about “migrant crime” and his plan for “Operation Aurora”, a mass deportation scheme for illegal migrants. He has also praised his wife, Melania, for her recent memoir.
Trump has not posted on his own platform, Truth Social, about the incident. After the previous attempts on his life, he put out statements assuring his supporters he was safe.
A Republican Congresswoman labelled the suspected assassination attempt on Donald Trump “abhorrent”.
Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican congresswoman for Florida, said: “I just received word of the third assassination attempt on President Trump’s life. This is a time that our nation must come together to condemn this violence.
“This is abhorrent and should never be tolerated in a civilized society.”
She continued: “Our prayers are with President Trump and his family. “

Marjorie Taylor Greene has urged her followers to “pray for President Trump” after the suspected third assassination attempt.
“Pray for President Trump, his family, and the entire Trump Team,” the US congresswoman said.
“This appears to be a thwarted third assassination attempt.”

The ‘would-be assassin’ was booked at John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio on charges of possessing loaded firearms, Riverside County sheriff’s officials said.
Law enforcement officers found the guns and magazine after searching Mr Miller’s black SUV at a checkpoint at Avenue 52 and Celebration Drive in Coachella at about 5 p.m, authorities said.
The FBI does not believe this was an assassination attempt, the NY Post reported.
Law enforcement officials told the paper that the former president’s life was never in danger.
The reports contradict a previous statement from the sheriff’s office calling the suspect is a “would-be assassin”.
Fox News have reported that sources close to the former president’s camp had said there was no “assassination attempt” against Trump at the rally.
“We’re told a man with a gun was arrested at the perimeter of the event without incident,” Bill Melugin, the network’s national correspondent said on X.
The suspected assassination attempt follows previous attempts on Trump’s life at a rally in Pennsylvania in July and at his Miami golf course last month.
At the rally, the US Secret Service failed to stop 20-year-old Matthew Crooks from opening fire on Trump from a nearby rooftop. One bullet grazed Trump’s ear, and Crooks was killed by a sniper.
The second attempt on Sept 15 was foiled by Trump’s protective team, who spotted the nose of a rifle pointing through the shrubbery as the former president played golf nearby. Police later arrested 58-year-old Ryan Routh, who was charged with five federal crimes. He denies the charges.
Mr Miller is reported by the Press-Enterprise, a local news outlet, to be a registered Republican who holds a master’s degree from UCLA and ran for state assembly in Nevada in 2022.
Mr Bianco, the sheriff, said Mr Miller considers himself a “sovereign citizen”, a term used to refer to voters who do not believe they are subject to any law unless they have consented to them.
“I thought it’s not going to happen in Riverside County,” he said. “We don’t have the same sicko issues and violent protests like they have in Los Angeles. We’re better than that. Go figure.”
“I am extremely proud of the mental and physical effort our deputies showed all day,” he added.
Chad Bianco, the Riverside County Sheriff, said: “We probably stopped another assassination attempt.”
Mr Bianco told the Southern California News Group that the suspect, Vim Miller, is a member of a Right–leaning anti-government group, and had presented fake VIP and press passes at a police checkpoint outside the rally.
“They were different enough to cause the deputies alarm,” he said.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has said it has arrested a man outside a Trump rally in Coachella, California on Saturday, who was “illegally in possession of a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine”.
